What is it about?

This is a series that I want to share with my children when they are growing into young men. It is a story of working hard for what you want, defending what you believe in and overcoming adversity. It is a story of love and magic and friends.

In book 2, Kvothe has even bigger adventures than he experienced in book 1. I don’t want to spoil anything, but this book is never boring. Except, maybe, the last 40 of 1107 pages. It probably could have ended before then without losing anything.

Was it good?

It was brilliant, inspiring, frustrating, and beautiful. How can I not give it 5 stars? I don’t know exactly, but there are just a few things that might have negatively influenced my rating. The never-ending ending, and the excess of sex with a fairy that took up too much of Kvothe’s time. (It is awkward for me to read these things while breastfeeding my baby and/or sitting near the two and four-year old.) Finally, it is a REALLY long book (1107 pages) and I could only read it in short bursts which makes it difficult to stay in the correct mindset for this amazing world.

I hope you read this series and love it even more than I did.
